Delicious Holiday Foods for Braces

Posted .

We are so excited about the holidays! This is a time of celebration and goodwill for many people. Along with the holiday cheer comes a lot of opportunities for really good food–for those of us wearing braces, however, holiday foods can be a challenge. Here are some braces-friendly menu options for your holiday dinners.

Turkey, Fish, or Brisket: Protein-rich foods such as turkey or brisket are excellent sources of phosphorus. Phosphorus is vital to mouth health, as it helps your body absorb calcium which strengthens teeth. Make sure the brisket is cooked to fork-tender for a braces-friendly meal.

Mashed Potatoes or Latkes: Potatoes are an ideal way to get some savory flavor into your holiday. They are soft and easy to clean away from teeth and braces. Just remember to brush well after eating starchy foods.

Fruit or Cheese: Thinly sliced fruit can be an excellent and elegant dessert for braces-wearers. If you can, try pairing seasonal fruits with a platter of holiday cheeses for a delectable spread full of calcium and nutrients. If cheeses aren’t a part of your holiday, drizzle the fruit in dark chocolate.

Pie: Most pie is a great option for braces. One notable exception is pecan pie (nuts and caramel are not good for braces). But you have a full range of fruit, cream, and custard pies to choose from.

Chocolate: Soft-prepared chocolate is a great way to do dessert for the holidays! Try a chocolate pudding, or a slightly crispy chocolate meringue, or a good old-fashioned chocolate bar (no caramel, though!).
